The Church of The Sacred Heart and St Catherine of Alexandia, Droitwich

We have been fortunate to have worked on some beautiful and noteworthy projects over the years, and this is certainly one we’ll remember and be proud of.

The Church is extensively internally decorated in Venetian glass mosaic carried out using the ‘direct method’ predominately by Gabriel Pippet between 1922 – 1932. With more than 550m2 of mosaic throughout the Church carried out to an extremely high standard and obviously inspired and influenced by great earlier Italian works.

This extensive project took almost 4 months to complete by our specialist team. To ensure minimal interruption to regular Church services, access to the mosaic at high level was achieved by scaffold towers and a cherry picker. The work involved the cleaning, stabilising and reinstatement of loose and missing gold and glass smalti supplied by Angelo Orsoni, Venice.

A big thanks to Anais, Andrea and Paul who were full time on the project for their fantastic work, as well as the usual Mosaic Restoration team when required. The project was completed in July 2025 and we hope to provide more images and videos via the website over the next few months.

The Church is open to the public and even if you’re not a mosaic enthusiast it is definitely worth a visit.

Finally, a congratulations to the Church Team for raising the funds and managing the project.
