The Church of The Sacred Heart and St Catherine of Alexandia, Droitwich
We were asked back to carry out additional work at this fantastic Church where on removal of the carpets in the side chapels revealed a Cosmati and marble mosaic flooring.
As part of the potential Transport for Wales, roads and town regeneration scheme, we were invited back in 2024 to carry out a condition survey and accurate record of the 'Budd Mosaics', with the assistance of Oliver Budd the original Artist / Mosaicist.
Another fantastic L. Oppenheimer mosaic restored. These mosaics are skilfully executed and with most well over 100 years old are generally very hardwearing and a joy to work on. Fortunately, we have extensive stocks of salvaged and new hand-cropped tesserae and can accurately replicate missing and damaged sections, illustrated below.
The Church of The Sacred Heart and St Catherine of Alexandia, Droitwich
We have been fortunate to have worked on some beautiful and noteworthy projects over the years, and this is certainly one we’ll remember and be proud of.
The Church is extensively internally decorated in Venetian glass mosaic carried out using the ‘direct method’ predominately by Gabriel Pippet between 1922 - 1932. With more than 550m2 of mosaic throughout the Church carried out to an extremely high standard and obviously inspired and influenced by great earlier Italian works.
We were awarded the tender for the conservation and reinstatement of missing glazed wall tiling to the grand Brandford Forum Corn Exchange building in the centre of the town. Instructed by Spencer Hall Conservation and Hammonds the Main Contractor, our works were carried out in phases during the Spring and Summer of 2025.
This project started in 2020 with the careful documentation and careful removal of the original 'Coat of Arms' mosaic from the building, then transporting to our workshop for safe storage while the major refurbishment works were carried out by the Main Contractor.
2023 Large Church Projects – Rochdale RC Church and Bury
A great year for really interesting and challenging Church projects.
See: St John The Baptist RC Church, Rochdale & The Church of St Mary the Virgin, Bury.
We were awarded a large contract to clean, restore and conserve in excess of 4,000m2 of marble mosaic over four floors at The Old Admiralty Building as part of a major refurbishment project for Willmott Dixon.
A beautiful original marble mosaic in the main entrance of the Theatre was discovered under a carpet. Previously covered in latex levelling compound we carefully removed the unsympathetic covering to expose the mosaic, clean and take templates of missing sections which we are to specially fabricate and reinstate at a later date.
In 2019 we removed a large internal wall mural measuring approximately 15 x 2.5 metres. The project involved the careful recording, full-sized digital cartoons, removal, remounting and reinstating to a new location within the Chadwick Lecture Theatre.
A mosaic text was discovered during the major refurbishment works and we were awarded the contract to remove, reconstruct and reinstate the 18 linear meters of fine un-glazed ceramic mosaic originally supplied by Craven Dunnill.
