Norwich Castle Museum - City Coat of Arms - mosaic restoration

This project started in 2020 with the careful documentation and careful removal of the original ‘Coat of Arms’ mosaic from the building, then transporting to our workshop for safe storage while the major refurbishment works were carried out by the Main Contractor.

The mosaic was stabilised, reduced in size, mounted into a bespoke frame, restored and delivered to site in November 2023 ready for the grand opening ceremony.

We will miss having the mosaic in our workshop which has been an interesting talking point for visitors while discussing their own projects.

However, the main achievement of this project was the fact that we managed to lift intact 4m2 of an almost 200 year old mosaic weighing in excess of 1 ton and reinstate it with no damage. A complex and challenging project with a great result.
